Piano need tuning?

Hello. If your piano no longer sounds or plays like you want, or remember, then it's time to have it tuned and serviced.

  • Out of tune?
  • Poor performance?
  • Sticky keys?
  • Action problems?

Upright or Grand, call me so we can discuss your piano servicing needs.

Piano tuning is the act of making minute adjustments to the tensions of the strings of an acoustic piano to properly align the intervals between their tones so that the instrument is in tune. The meaning of the term 'in tune', in the context of piano tuning, is not simply a particular fixed set of pitches. Fine piano tuning requires an assessment of the vibration interaction among notes, which is different for every piano, thus in practice requiring slightly different pitches from any theoretical standard. Pianos are usually tuned to a modified version of the system called equal temperament.

In all systems of tuning, every pitch may be derived from its relationship to a chosen fixed pitch, which is usually A440, the note A above middle C.

Your piano is a major investment which deserves regular servicing to keep it working well and preserve its value. Auto manufacturers recommend changing the oil in your car every 3000 to 5000 miles. They also recommend maintaining the correct air pressure in your tires. Likewise, your dentist recommends that you get your teeth cleaned every six months. These examples are comparable to piano manufactures recommending that your piano be tuned twice a year. This is considered routine maintenance necessary to prolong life and maintain performance. A well-maintained piano sounds better, plays better, and will give you and your family a wealth of musical pleasure.
